In 2018, during the centenary year of the first women winning the right to vote in Britain, a statue of Emmeline Pankhurst was unveiled in Manchester city centre’s St Peter’s Square - the first statue of a woman in the city since 1901.
Taking it's title from a 1908 Manchester suffragette banner in People's History Museum's (PHM) collection that highlights the crucial role the city played in the campaign for votes for women, this book explores the lives of 20 radical Manchester women, The choice of Emmeline Pankhurst as a statue won a public vote from a shortlist of the 20 women the book explores, each beautifully illustrated by artists from local project Women in Print.
