The Rickard Sisters
Sisters Scarlett and Sophie Rickard work together to create powerful and beautifully illustrated graphic novels. Sophie writes the words, Scarlett brings them to life through her artwork - a creative partnership rooted in their Lancashire upbringing and lifelong storytelling.
Their acclaimed adaptations, The Ragged Trousered Philanthropists and No Surrender, reimagine classic socialist and suffrage literature, shining a light on voices that have challenged inequality and championed change.
Beyond their graphic novels, the Rickard Sisters create beautiful ‘cheering’ tea towels and posters, share a rousing message of hope and tenacity with traditional workers’ slogans. Exclusively available at People’s History Museum are their portrait postcards of inspirational figures such as Sir Ian McKellen, Annie Besant, and Jayaben Desai, along with their playful ‘Time to Strike’ matches, celebrating the spirit of protest.
